A man, a paper, a cat, cup of coffee and silence

The Art of Silence: Why I Need Time Alone to Think 🧘☕

With the chaos of 2025, two small kids running around, and a cat that thankfully doesn’t add to the noise, I often crave complete silence. Like, I’d trade almost anything for a quiet moment with a cup of coffee ☕, maybe some low-volume LoFi beats 🎵 in my headphones, and the cat chilling nearby.

Why Silence Matters

The world is loud as f*ck—YouTube videos, TikTok shorts, LLMs spitting out ideas, notifications. Too much information, way less time to think about what actually matters to you.

And that’s the real issue: no time for your own thoughts. Sure, it’s fine to watch productivity videos and dive into the “10 ways to improve your life” genre, but if you never slow down to process it all, what’s the point? If your brain doesn’t have room to stack, sort, and analyze, then all that new knowledge is just noise. You end up tired, not inspired.

So I prefer to slow down. Stop. Sit in silence. Think. 🛑

Action Over Absorption

Here’s another thing about learning: if you’re not immediately applying what you learn, you’re wasting your f*cking time. Whenever I watch a practical YouTube video and stumble on something truly useful, I pause that shit—even if I’m eating—and try it out right away. Worst case? I jot down an actionable item in my calendar to revisit later. If I don’t act on it, it’s just wasted information.

Sorting My Chaos

When it comes to organizing my thoughts, I’m a sucker for simplicity. Windows Notepad. Yep, the OG app. Lightweight, fast, and does the job. I type out what’s buzzing in my head—ideas, goals, challenges—and then sort them.

Here’s my process:

  1. Write down everything on my mind.
  2. Ask myself: What’s actually important here? (Spoiler: you can’t do everything.)
  3. Pick 1-2 priorities for the next few weeks.

You can’t skip life’s foundations like work, health, and family. Those are your home base. But once you acknowledge those, you can decide what to focus on next. I review my priorities weekly (or mid-week if needed) and adjust as I go. 🔄

Brainstorming at 4 AM

Sometimes, I need to brainstorm but can’t talk to anyone. Let’s face it, nobody’s thrilled to hear your 4 AM crazy-ass goals. Not even your spouse. 😂

Enter ChatGPT. I dump a maximum amount of context into one detailed prompt—who I am, what I want, my challenges, progress so far, and where I want to go. It’s like a brainstorming buddy with zero judgment. Sure, it doesn’t have a soul, but it’s helpful. The trick? Pay attention to the small “buts” in its responses—they’re usually the hidden truths you need to hear.

Alone Time: A Lost Art?

Back in the day, successful people had this ritual of spending hours alone with a notebook. No distractions. Just pen, paper, and their thoughts. They’d emerge with clarity, ready to tackle the week ahead.

I think we’ve lost a bit of that art in the age of constant connectivity. But I’m trying to bring it back for myself. It works.

My 50 Cents

That’s my take on it. I don’t know if this rambling will help anyone, but it’s my truth. Thanks to the internet, I can throw this jumbled mess into the void and maybe—just maybe—get some feedback.

So yeah, enjoy your weekend!

PS: If you’ve got a similar process, share it. I’d love to hear how others navigate this noisy world. Cheers! 🍻
