If you think you’ll finish that shiny “40-hour course” in, well, 40 hours—you’re kidding yourself. Take that number and triple or even quadruple it. Why? Because learning programming is fucking tough. It’s no joke.
The difference between a programming video course and your favorite YouTube binge? The grind. 💻 For most people, programming isn’t just a new skill—it’s an entirely new way of thinking. You’ll replay lessons 3, maybe 4 times before things click. Been there, done that.
When I was grinding through part-time web development classes, I was slower than the rest of the group. And yeah, it stung. But I didn’t let it stop me. After every class, I’d head home, crack open another video course, and replay those lessons until my brain finally cooperated.
Here’s the kicker: you only lose when you give up. That’s it. Showing up, day after day—even when it feels like nothing’s sticking—that’s how you win. Progress may crawl, but it’s still progress.
